Stockton Kings Emcee & Host

When we moved to California in 2018 I didn’t have a job. Luckily the Stockton Kings, the G-League affiliate team for the Sacramento Kings, had just moved to Stockton from Reno. They were about to host their inaugural season and needed an emcee. A friend who used to work with me at Thunder and now works for the Kings, sent me the job posting. After a video submission and in-person audition, I got the job!

I had the pleasure of working with an incredible person and talented co-emcee in Tony Gladney. He brought a huge amount of energy, was so fun to work with, and most of all is a truly inspiring person as well. During the season Kavita Dhillon – who’s one of the most encouraging, amazing, and ambitious bosses I’ve ever worked for – allowed me to start interviewing players after games, which is something I’d been vying to gain experience in the past few years. Tony and I began doing pregame segments to get fans up to speed on the team’s record and the night’s matchup. We were a new team, with new fans, free to explore and discover new games, promotions, and activations to engage with fans. It was one of the coolest experiences being allowed to brainstorm crazy ideas and try them out on the court.

The inaugural season didn’t end exactly how we wanted, we got knocked out in the first round of the playoffs, but man was it a great time! I got to work with dedicated people navigating the ins and outs of what it takes to get fans and a community engaged with a new team, I had the privilege of learning from some talented people at the Kings in Sacramento, and I was given the opportunity to grow leaps and bounds professionally.

This move to California was a bit scary not knowing what was next for me. I’ve never been so out of my comfort zone. Everything has worked out so seamlessly though, you could say it was all meant to be.
